Geocaching Australia
This page contains information specific to Geocaching Australia.

Looking4Cache is a Geocaching App that runs on iOS. It can be downloaded for free from Apple’s AppStore It allows GPX files to be imported, then allows your phone to be used like a handheld GPS, showing cache coordinates, the listing, logs, hints and more. It uses your phones compass along with current GPS coordinates to help you navigate to GZ.

In order to load caches into the software, you’ll need to obtain a GPX file in to import. You can either download a GPX file directly from a cache page, or download multiple caches in a single file using the My Query feature of GCA.

If you open up the Geocaching Australia web site on your phone, you’ll be able to download the file directly to your device. If you use a PC or Mac to download the file, you’ll need to find a way to send the file to your phone (e.g. via Email, Airdrop, Dropbox etc)

Importing the File

Open the L4C app:

  • Select the menu icon on the bottom right
  • Select Import GPX/GSAK File.
  • Select File Picker
  • You’ll be presented with a list of files - select the file you want to import.
  • You’ll be then prompted to either create a new list, or select an existing one. A list is simply a collection of caches. You can import multiple files into a single list.

Select the cache you want to find and you’ll be presented with information about the listing, including the coordinates, hints and previous logs. You can press the ‘Start Navigation’ button to show the distance and bearing to the geocache.

There are various buttons on the navigation screen that will display a compass arrow, and change the way the map works, but ultimately this screen is very similar to what you would see if using a GPSr.

Logging the Cache

The cache can not be logged through the app. You’ll need to log the cache by visiting it’s listing through a web browser on your device of choice.
