There are many different types of caches:

Beacon Cache D Beacon alt:X a Multi-cache that uses technological means to determine one or many subsequent waypoints
Mystery/Unknown cache/Other O Mystery alt:X alt:X a catch-all to cover other possible caches
CITO cache CITO alt:X special type of event with Cache In Trash Out intentions (use Event on Geocaching Australia)

Webcam cache Markericon Webcam.PNG Webcam alt:X take a picture to log (grandfathered on GC)

Some types can be listed on GC ( as well as Geocaching Australia (Geocaching Australia), some on only one site. has grandfathered some types, meaning they are no longer allowed for new caches, although existing caches remain.

Other cache listing websites may support other types.
