GAFF - Geocaching Assistance Finding Factor

This term was coined by pprass.

GAFF is a non-official, non-binding rating system to describe under what circumstances the cache was found.

So instead of saying you had to look at the hint, call a friend, and then call another friend who came out and pointed to the cache with a stick, you could say it was a GAFF 5 find.

  • GAFF 1 - Read the cache page and found the cache using the co-ords listed. Did not read any previous logs and defenitely did not look at the hint if there were any. This is the ultimate find.
  • GAFF 2 - Read the cache page and read the logs then found the cache.
  • GAFF 3 - Read the cache page, read the logs and peeked at the hint, then found the cache.
  • GAFF 4 - Read the cache page, read the logs and peeked at the hint then called a previous finder or the owner and received a cryptic hint, which still was a challenge to decipher, then found the cache.
  • GAFF 5 - Read the cache page, read the logs and peeked at the hint then called a previous finder or the owner and received a cryptic hint, which still was a challenge to decipher, but were then given explicit instructions as to where the cache was hidden and then found the cache.
