Mid-Year Mystery Madness Months (MMMM) 2025

🎯 Goal

The goal of Mid-Year Mystery Madness Months is to hide, solve, and find mystery geocaches submitted by other geocachers for the game and maximise your points as you do so.

πŸ† Scoring System

  • Double points for hiding a mystery geocache that meets the MMMM criteria
  • Single points for solving and/or finding others’ entries
  • You cannot solve your own caches

Points Calculation Formula:

(Terrain Γ— Difficulty) + (Container Γ— Type)
  • Type is always 5 (Mystery Cache)

πŸ“¦ How to Enter a Mystery Geocache

You may enter up to 5 geocaches for the game. Each must meet the following criteria:

  • Type: Mystery / Unknown
  • GeoChecker must be enabled with final coordinates
  • Must include the public tag: mmmm2025
  • Hidden Date: 1st June 2025
  • Published Date: 1st June 2025
  • Status: Live or in Future Publish mode
  • Difficulty: 3.5 or lower
  • Terrain: 3.5 or lower
  • Container Size: Small, Regular, or Large
  • Must be live before 30th June 2025
  • May be listed (for future publication) from 15th May to 30th June 2025

When ready, go to the Entry Page, select your geocache, and enter it into the game.

🧩 Making a Solve or Find Claim

To claim a solve or find:

  1. Visit the Claim Page
  2. Select the geocache you are claiming
  3. Choose the claim type: Solve or Find
  4. When logging a Find, upload a photo of the logbook with your cacher name visible (no spoilers)
  5. Provide the solved coordinates in the format: Snn nn.nnn Ennnn nn.nnn
  6. Click Submit

Claim Statuses:

  • Approved – Reviewed and accepted by an administrator
  • Pending – Awaiting review
  • Contact – Administrator will reach out to you

πŸͺœ The Ladder & Strategy

Your position on the Leaderboard (Ladder) is based on:

  1. Points
  2. Number of Hides, Finds, and Solves

The higher your stats, the higher your ranking. Prizes are awarded to:

  • 1st to 10th place
  • Every 5th position thereafter until prizes are exhausted

> Example: Some days position 90 may be the final prize position; other days it might be 50.

  • Only geocaches listed on Geocaching Australia qualify
  • Geocaches must be hidden, found, or solved during the game period
  • The game relies on player honesty
  • Inaccurate claims may lead to disqualification
  • Admin decisions are final
  • Rules may be clarified at any time by the administrators

🧠 Difficulty Recommendations

Difficulty Description
1 Easy – Solve within a few minutes
1.5 Easy – Solve within 10–15 minutes
2 Moderate – Solve within 30 minutes
3 Challenging – May take up to 1 hour
3.5 Tough – Mental challenge up to 2 hours
